What are anti-saltpetre products ?

These unsightly marks are caused by the accumulation of mineral salts (nitrates, chlorides, sulfates) on the surface of building materials and can sometimes be structurally damaging or cause plaster to deteriorate.
The primary purpose of anti-saltpetre treatments is to neutralise these salts, sanitise affected substrates (such as stone, brick, concrete, plaster), and prevent further migration of salts to the surface. When and how to apply an anti-saltpetre treatment ?
